Single Parenting and Dating: How to do it

Many single parents wonder if they will ever be able to start dating again. With time being such a precious commodity, it often appears as though you cannot fit another single activity into your busy schedule. With the schedules of the children, the babysitters, the school events, the athletic events, and a variety of other consumers of time, the major concern for single parenthood is how do you begin to date again?

Family Events

Single moms and dads often overlook the fact that they are immersed in family activities all the time. Surely there are other single parents looking to date at a youth soccer game or ballet practice.

Using the time that you already have allotted for your children can be the equivalent of getting two birds with one stone. It’s even possible that the single parent of your choice has a child that is already friends with yours. Capitalize on using your time wisely when having to be at family events to begin with.

Physical Activity

Most adults incorporate some form of fitness into their schedule for themselves. If you already carve out an hour or so several times a week, why not look around your activity source for an available companion?

By looking for a potential date in an area of exercise, you immediately know that you have at least one thing in common. Strike up conversation with people while you are working out. You will never know if someone is available if you don’t make the effort to communicate. Although it may seem awkward at first, you just may find a person or two that you enjoy talking to.

Lunches

Everyone has to eat. Once again you can squeeze in some social time for yourself by meeting a person for lunch instead of dinner. Since most people can get away for at least one lunch a week, it is a perfect time to have short conversations that do not put a lot of pressure on you or your date.

Lunch is always seen as more casual, so meeting someone at the local taco bar is much less threatening than trying to arrange a sit down dinner date. Often, your children are in school, so there is no need to worry or be concerned about their welfare. This allows you the opportunity to devote your lunch date to the other person, and not have your mind engaged elsewhere.

Single parenthood can bring about a large amount of stress when dealing with time. By making the best use of your time, you will be able to enjoy the possibility of dating and getting to know someone new. While children are the nuts and bolts of your life, a single parent must set aside time to bond with others.

Once you have opened your eyes to the options already built into your daily or weekly schedule, you will find that meeting new people is not nearly as difficult as you might have thought. It is completely possible to be a single parent who dates.
